Privacy Policy

Borrow Mode is built on a simple promise: your phone holds your whole life, and it should stay yours. This policy explains — in plain language — what the app does and does not do with your information.

1. Information we collect

None that leaves your device. Borrow Mode has no servers, no user accounts, and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Everything it needs is stored locally on your phone:

• Your exit PIN — stored on-device in a salted, hashed form. The plain PIN is never saved and never leaves the phone.
• Your preferences — such as the auto-exit timer and whether biometric unlock is enabled.
• The app you choose to allow — used only to start a borrow session; it is not recorded or transmitted anywhere.

2. Device permissions we request

Borrow Mode asks for a few Android permissions purely to make the single-app lock work. We use them only for that purpose.

• Accessibility access — lets the app detect when the borrower tries to leave the allowed app so it can return them to it. It reads only which app is in the foreground; it does not read your screen content, and it is active only during a borrow session.
• List of installed apps — so you can pick which app to allow. The list stays on your device.
• Ignore battery optimization (optional) — keeps the lock from being killed mid-session.
• Notifications & foreground service — to keep a session running and give you a “tap to unlock” exit.
• Biometrics (optional) — to let you unlock with your fingerprint or face instead of a PIN. Biometric data is handled entirely by Android and is never seen by the app.

3. How your data is used

All processing happens locally, in real time, to enforce the borrow session you started. Nothing is uploaded, profiled, or used for advertising. Because there are no servers, we could not access your data even if we wanted to.

4. Data sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose any personal information to third parties. There is no data to share.

5. Data retention & deletion

Your PIN and preferences remain on your device until you clear the app’s data or uninstall it. Uninstalling Borrow Mode removes everything the app stored.

6. Children’s privacy

Borrow Mode does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The app functions the same for all users and stores no personal data off-device.

7. Security

Your PIN is stored using a salted cryptographic hash, and sensitive settings live in the app’s private storage. That said, no method of on-device storage is perfectly secure — please also protect your phone with a device lock.

8. Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
